Summary:

As Manager of The Peer Support Center, this position will provide leadership, program development, and supervision for the Brunswick Peer Support Center. The position will use their own lived experience as well as the values of Intentional Peer Support to oversee operations of the Center, supporting staff and the community in creating a peer support community, including peer support structured groups, educational opportunities, and all other Center programming.

The Manager’s overarching role is to ensure:
1) Supervision of Peer Support Specialists
2) Develop and manage relationships with partnering organizations including managing MOUs
3) Assure all structured peer support groups, educational opportunities, and other participant activities are being facilitated and attended
4) Oversee that data collection and reporting is accurate and submitted in a timely manner
5) Coordinate, in collaboration with staff, the Brunswick Peer Support Center Governance Board
6) Assist the Director in supervising other Peer Support Specialist roles across Sweetser, including hiring and retention, grant management; and the coordination of staff trainings.

The role of Manager, Peer Support Center requires someone with significant experience with recovery from mental health challenges, substance use, and/or life interrupting trauma.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Fully understands and is able to actively support staff in the implementation of the Intentional Peer Support Peer Training Model- including coordinating training needs.
  • Provides regular supervision for Peer Support Specialists.
  • Models relationship building, based on the Intentional Peer Support with staff, community members, and colleagues.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with partnering agencies to support the implementation of MOUs and other community outreach.
  • Leads the recruitment, hiring and retention of Peer Support Specialists.
  • Works with Sweetser's marketing team to conduct outreach, marketing, and other promotional activities for The Peer Support Center.
  • Oversees all necessary training, support, and systems needed to satisfy accurate and timely data collection and reporting.
  • Organize the dissemination of the Participant Survey and guide the Brunswick Peer Support Center in response to the data.
  • Use results from the Satisfaction Surveys, Participant feedback and Governing Board to determine supportive staff training and Center programming.
  • Manages, along with the Director of Recovery Services, program finances.
  • Ongoing collaboration and correspondence with State of Maine Office of Behavioral Health.
  • Schedules will vary according to program needs- some nights and weekends needed.
  • Follows best practices and guidelines established for each program.

  • Understands and complies with all Sweeter policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in ongoing supervision and team meetings.
  • Provides timely and accurate paperwork; including timesheets and expense reports.
  • Actively engages the assigned manager whenever you have questions or concerns.
  • Provides the director with updated information regarding your availability.
  • Supports the Director in addressing immediate program needs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • State of Maine Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) Certification; or acquired full CIPSS Certification within one year of hire;
  • Meet the annual State of Maine requirements to maintain CIPSS Certification.
  • Maintain a valid state driver’s license, reliable transportation and adequate insurance.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge gained by lived experience with the process of Recovery from trauma, serious mental illness, and/or co-occurring Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and is willing to self-identify with peers on this basis in the community.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Paid, or unpaid, peer support experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of personal Recovery.
  • Ability to be emotionally present and competent; recognize when you are not, seek support, and communicate this to director.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and accept differences in perspective and values.
  • Intermediate computer skills including the expectation of utilizing iCarol, a program used to collect relevant statistical data.
